Willie Nelson Undergoes Hand Surgery

Following conflicting reports from concert promoters and publicists, Willie Nelson’s daughter confirms that her father underwent surgery Wednesday (May 19) to relieve pain in his left hand due to carpal tunnel syndrome. On the singer’s official Web site, Lana Nelson writes, “After a year of trying everything from arnica to zinc to relieve the pain, he finally had to break down and let them whittle on it a little. Doctors tell him he’ll be back playing Trigger [his battered Martin guitar] after the incision is totally mended, followed by a few weeks of physical therapy.” She adds, “He’s trying as hard as he possibly can to get back to his fans and the life he loves making music with his friends.”
