Diamond Rio Welcome International Fans

Devotees from as far away as Japan and Great Britain traveled to Tennessee to attend Diamond Rio’s fan club party Tuesday (June 8) near Nashville. “It took me 25 hours to get here, but it’s worth it,” Hiromi Chida of Kumamoto, Japan tells CMT News. The band members treated a ballroom filled with fans to an intimate performance. Explaining the party, lead vocalist Marty Roe jokes, “We go in here and basically goof off for all day long.” Bassist Dana Williams adds, “We try to create that feeling that we’re just kind of sitting in the living room and visiting and singing and doing what they want to hear — and possibly what they don’t want to hear.” During a break, they were handed gold record plaques (to commemorate shipment of 500,000 units) for their last CD, Completely. The band members are wrapping up work on their next album. A new single is scheduled for release in July. (To view photos from the party, visit the CMA Music Festival page at CMT.com.)
