Dixie Chick Featured in ACLU Ad

Natalie Maines, the Dixie Chicks' lead singer, is pictured in a full-page ad on behalf of the American Civil Liberties Union in the June 14 issue of The New Yorker. She is shown wearing a black leather motorcycle jacket and holding a guitar. The text reads, "I am not an American who confuses politics with patriotism. I am an American who loves our country because we are all guaranteed the freedom to disagree with government decisions. I am an ACLU member. ..." Maines ignited a political firestorm last year with her anti-war opposition and denouncement of President George W. Bush.
