Janette Carter, daughter of country music pioneers A.P. and Sara Carter, was recently presented the Country Music Association’s Joe Talbot Award in recognition of outstanding leadership and contributions to the preservation and advancement of country music’s values and traditions. Janette Carter performed with her parents and her aunt, Maybelle Carter, during the 1930s at radio stations along the Texas-Mexico border. She later recorded several solo albums and other projects with her brother, Joe Carter. Since 1974, she has performed most Saturday nights at the Carter Family Fold, A.P. Carter’s birthplace in Hiltons, Va.
