CMA Honors Preston, Delays Awards Show Decision

The Country Music Association honored BMI president and CEO Frances W. Preston during a recent board meeting in New York City but delayed a decision about taking the CMA Awards show to the Big Apple in 2005. The CMA announced a $10,000 donation to the Country Music's Hall of Fame's education and literacy programs to honor Preston, a Hall of Fame member who is retiring from BMI. Because of delays in negotiating contracts to move the awards show to New York on a one-time basis, the board postponed a final vote. In 2003, the CMA announced that it was considering New York as a possible location for the event in an effort to expand the profile of the awards show and country music, in general.
