Gill, Deaton Honored by CMA

The Country Music Association honored 12-time CMA Awards host Vince Gill at a presentation during its board of directors meetings this week in Nashville. The CMA presented Gill a Steuben crystal trophy and unveiled a photo of Gill that will be displayed in the CMA’s lobby with an inscription acknowledging his contributions as the awards show host. After Gill announced he would not host the upcoming show, the CMA announced that Brooks & Dunn will handle the TV duties this year. At the CMA event Wednesday (Sept. 15), Gill hinted that he’ll return as host at a later date. “I need to focus on my artist side for a while,” he said. “Once I do that, I’ll be back.” … Also during the board meetings, CMA president Kix Brooks surprised a fellow board member — video and film producer Robert Deaton — with the CMA President’s Award for his contributions to the organization, including serving as producer of the recent CBS-TV special, CMA Music Festival: Country Music’s Biggest Party.
