CMA Expected to Announce New York Awards Show

During press conferences taking place Tuesday (Oct. 5) in New York City and Nashville, the Country Music Association is expected to announce plans to take its annual awards show to the Big Apple in 2005. CMA officials have called a morning press conference at City Hall in New York City with Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The CMA entourage will then return to Tennessee for an afternoon press conference with Nashville Mayor Bill Purcell. In addition to Bloomberg, the New York press conference will include comments from Jack Sussman, CBS-TV senior vice president of television specials, and Maureen J. Reidy, president of NYC Big Events Inc., an organization that attracts high-profile events to the New York City area. Among those scheduled to attend both press conferences are CMA board president Kix Brooks, board member Trace Adkins and executive director Ed Benson. In September 2003, the CMA announced that a study was underway to take its annual awards show to New York City in 2005 for one year only. In 2003, Benson said the CMA was looking at the one-time move to New York City as a way to "generate increased exposure and excitement for the format."
