Tim McGraw’s new album, Live Like You Were Dying, has been certified double platinum for shipments of 2 million copies, the RIAA announced Wednesday (Oct. 6). Sales of the album, released Sept. 24, are expected to increase substantially in the weeks to come as McGraw receives additional media attention for his role in Friday Night Lights, a film starring Billy Bob Thornton. He’ll promote the film Friday (Oct. 8) during an appearance on NBC’s Today. … In other multi-platinum certifications for September 2004, Shania Twain’s 2002 project, Up!, received RIAA status for shipments of 11 million copies. Genius Loves Company, Ray Charles’ final album that features duets with Willie Nelson and others, was certified platinum. Toby Keith’s 20th Century Masters compilation of music videos received gold certification as a longform video.
