Scruggs Exhibit Opens March 4

The exhibit Banjo Man: The Musical Journey of Earl Scruggs will open at the Country Music Hall of Fame on March 4. As a member of Bill Monroe’s band, Scruggs’ innovative banjo style helped define the music that would become known as bluegrass. He and Lester Flatt left Monroe’s band in 1948 to form Flatt & Scruggs & the Foggy Mountain Boys, later recording classics such as “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” and “The Ballad of Jed Clampett.” Flatt & Scruggs were elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1985. The exhibit will also honor Louise Scruggs, Earl’s wife, who has managed his career since 1955.
