The night before the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots battle it out at Super Bowl XXXIX, Lynyrd Skynyrd will join family and friends for a live concert special from the band’s hometown, Jacksonville, Fla. Partially borrowing its title from a Skynyrd classic, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Super Bowl Saturday Night Special, part of the Pepsi Smash Super Bowl Concert Series, will feature Charlie Daniels, Jo Dee Messina and 3 Doors Down. One of the other guests — .38 Special’s Donnie Van Zant — is the brother of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s current lead vocalist, Johnny Van Zant, and the band’s late founder, Ronnie Van Zant. Donnie and Johnny Van Zant recently signed a country recording contract with Sony Music Nashville. Tickets to the Feb. 5 concert at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena are priced at $53 and are available at all Ticketmaster outlets. A portion of the ticket sales will go to tsunami relief.
