Duhks, Grascals, Reckless Kelly, Wheeler Offer New Albums

Drawing on bluegrass, folk and country music, several independent artists released new albums on Tuesday (Feb. 8). The Duhks (Sugar Hill) offers plenty of acoustic instruments, but vocalist Jessica Havey brings to mind the Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde. ... Based in Austin, Texas, the five-man roots-rock band Reckless Kelly have another album, titled Wicked Twisted Road (Sugar Hill), to sell on their never-ending tour. ... The Grascals (Rounder) showcases the bluegrass band that opened for Dolly Parton in 2004. Parton guests on "Viva Las Vegas." ... Best known to country fans for writing Suzy Bogguss' "Aces," Wheeler's Defying Gravity (Rounder) is her first new album in six years, with two satirical songs recorded live at the now-defunct Bottom Line in New York City.
