Chocolate Pound Cake

Hazel's Hot Dish Recipe of the Week

Chocolate Pound Cake

There’s no telling how many chocolate pound cakes I’ve made in my life. I used to take them to church homecoming back in North Carolina eons ago.

1 cup butter
1/2 cup Crisco
3 cups sugar
5 eggs
3 cups plain flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
5 tablespoons cocoa
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
2 teaspoons vanilla

Preheat over to 325°. Have ingredients at room temperature.

Using beater, cream butter and Crisco. Add sugar gradually. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and cocoa. Add to butter mixture alternately with milk, scraping sides often. Add vanilla. Bake for 1 1/2 hours in a greased and floured pound cake pan.

After cooling, it’s yummy to frost with a cocoa/confectioners sugar, butter, cream cheese icing with a little vanilla.
