A year after making a career comeback with her album Have a Little Faith, Mavis Staples won three W.C. Handy Awards on Thursday night (May 5) in Memphis, Tenn. Staples took the trophy for soul blues female artist, and her Have a Little Faith project won in the blues and soul blues album categories. The album's title track netted a blues song win for songwriters Jim Tullio and Jim Weider. Have a Little Faith includes "Will the Circle Be Unbroken," the first song she learned with her family band, the Staple Singers. ... In other news from the Handys, steel guitarist Robert Randolph won in the blues instrumentalist category. He is featured in the video for Sawyer Brown's "Mission Temple Fireworks Stand."
