Drive Underway for Roy Orbison Commemorative Stamp

Organizers of Roy Orbison’s official Web site — — have launched a drive petitioning the U.S. Postal Service to issue a Roy Orbison commemorative stamp. The petition notice is viewable at U2 vocalist Bono was one of the petition’s early signers. Orbison, who died in 1988 of a heart attack at age 52, would have been 70 next April 23. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. Commemorative stamps being issued for the year 2005 honor singer Marian Anderson, actor Henry Fonda, Jim Henson and the Muppets, tennis player Arthur Ashe, writer Robert Penn Warren and former President Ronald Reagan.
