Branson Visionary’s Funeral Held at New Theater

Bill Dailey, who first envisioned Branson, Mo., as a major entertainment destination, was buried on Monday (Aug. 8), following a funeral in the New Shanghai Theatre, which he had opened just a week earlier. Dailey moved to Branson in 1979 with his wife, novelist Janet Dailey. He died of pancreatic cancer on Friday (Aug. 5) at age 76. Near the end of his life, he asked Shoji Tobuchi to play “Theme From Ice Castles” and Jim Stafford to sing “My Way” at his funeral. A Dixieland band played “Won’t You Come Home, Bill Bailey” as the casket was carried out of the building.
