Hall of Fame Honoring Father of Bluegrass on Birthday

The 94th anniversary of Bill Monroe’s birth will be observed Tuesday (Sept. 13) in Nashville with an event at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s Ford Theater in Nashville. Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder will perform a musical tribute to his mentor who died in 1996. According to a press release, the event will include “an appearance by Monroe’s most important musical partner.” Monroe, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1970, helped launch the careers of numerous bluegrass legends and spent most of his career playing a Gibson F-5 mandolin built in 1923.
