Johnny Cash’s daughter, Kathy Cash, claims that the new film Walk the Line portrays her mother, Vivian Liberto, as “basically a nonentity in the entire film except for the mad little psycho who hated (Cash’s) career,” according to an interview in the (Nashville) Tennessean. She says the movie ignores the children’s pain after their divorce, as well as from Cash’s drug abuse. She is also critical of the portrayal of Cash’s father, Ray Cash. Though the men didn’t always see eye to eye, Kathy Cash says the problems were “blown up to high proportions.” John Carter Cash, the son of Cash and his second wife June Carter Cash, responded in the Tennessean article that the film is essentially a love story between his parents. He served as an executive producer for the movie.
