Carl Perkins’ Wife Dies in Jackson, Tenn.

Funeral services will be held Thursday (Nov. 17) in Jackson, Tenn., for Valda deVere Perkins, 74, wife of the late singer-songwriter-guitarist Carl Perkins. She died Tuesday (Nov. 15) at her home in Jackson. Mrs. Perkins is survived by four children, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Carl Perkins, best known for his ’50s hit “Blue Suede Shoes,” died in 1998. He also wrote the Johnny Cash/June Carter smash, “Jackson.”
