McGraw Visits With Hurricane Victims in Louisiana

Tim McGraw spent Tuesday (Nov. 29) in Chalmette, La., near New Orleans, to meet with victims of Hurricane Katrina and help launch a national drive to raise money for Habitat for Humanity’s relief efforts. As part of his partnership with Amazon.com to generate donations, the Web site is offering McGraw’s unreleased recording of “Louisiana,” a song written before Hurricanes Katrina and Rita ravaged the state. McGraw told CMT Radio, “It’s been great to be down here and see all the people. It’s such a great spirit these people have.” McGraw added, “Money is what it’s going to take to rebuild all these areas. Nobody’s looking for a handout. These people are working hard. … They’re just asking for some help to get the infrastructure up and running — mainly get their children back where they feel safe and secure and have a routine. Anybody who has kids knows that if your kids don’t feel safe, secure and happy, then you can’t. I think once the infrastructure is up and the children are taken care of, then lives will slowly get back to normal.”
