Hazel's Hot Dish Recipe of the Week

Back home at Short Sugar’s in Reidsville, N.C., they make the world’s best barbecue, hotdogs and cheese dogs with chili. They will not give away their chili recipe but this is close.

1 pound lean ground beef
2 tablespoons onions, chopped fine
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons chili powder
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 15-ounce can tomato sauce

Brown ground beef with onion. Remove grease. Stir in salt, pepper, chili powder and Worcestershire sauce. Add tomato sauce. Allow to come to a boil. Reduce heat to simmer and cook 30 minutes.

Perfect hotdogs: Cook beef wieners according to package directions. Place wiener in hotdog bun. Streak with mustard.

Add a good helping of coleslaw (grated cabbage, salt, pepper, sugar, vinegar and Miracle Whip), finely chopped onion and slather with chili. Place in microwave just long enough to heat bun –about 15 seconds. Yummy!

For cheese dogs: Cut a piece of cheddar cheese the length and thickness of a wiener. Follow same directions for hotdog but heat about 30 seconds to melt cheese.

It takes a tad longer, but isn’t your family worth it?
