Louise Scruggs Honored With CMA Award

The late Louise Certain Scruggs was honored Monday (May 8) with the Country Music Association’s Joe Talbot Award. The wife of banjo pioneer Earl Scruggs, she became manager and booking agent for bluegrass duo Flatt & Scruggs as one of the first female executives in Nashville’s music industry. The award recognizes outstanding leadership and contributions to the preservation and advancement of country music’s values and traditions. In addition to managing Flatt & Scruggs and securing the placement of their music on TV (The Beverly Hillbillies) and film (Bonnie & Clyde), she managed her husband’s solo career until her death on Feb. 2 at age 78. The award was accepted by Earl Scruggs and sons Randy and Gary during a ceremony at the CMA office in Nashville.
