Van Zant, Lynyrd Skynyrd Cancel Appearances After Singer’s Surgery

Van Zant and Lynyrd Skynyrd have canceled appearances after Johnny Van Zant, lead vocalist for both bands, underwent an emergency appendectomy Thursday (May 18) at a hospital in Stanford, Calif. As a result, Van Zant — the duo that also features his brother, Donnie — will not be attending Tuesday’s (May 23) ACM Awards show. The brothers are nominated for top vocal duo. The surgery also forced Lynyrd Skynyrd to cancel three concerts this weekend in California and Nevada.
