Dixie Chicks’ New Album Debuts at Top of Chart

The Dixie Chicks’ new album, Taking the Long Way, sold 526,000 copies in its first full week of release to officially debut at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 sales chart. According to the trade publication, the project outsold American Idol Season 5: Encores, which notched sales of 154,000 copies. Taking the Long Way also knocks Rascal Flatts’ Me and My Gang from the No. 1 position on Billboard’s country chart, where it had remained for seven weeks. Advance sales prior to the May 23 release date caused the title to show up last week at No. 69 on Billboard’s country chart. The Dixie Chicks are the first female group ever to have three albums debut at No. 1. The trio will be interviewed Wednesday (May 31) on CNN’s Larry King Live.
