ACM Awards Boost Sales for Brooks & Dunn, Carrie Underwood

Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, Brad Paisley, Keith Urban Also See Gains After Wins

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas — unless you’re talking about the Academy of Country Music awards, that is. Thanks to the country fans all across the U.S., many of the artists who won or performed on the ACMs earned sizable sales boosts as a result.

For example, Brooks & Dunn’s Hillbilly Deluxe rockets back into the Top 10 of Billboard’s country albums chart with a 137 percent increase in sales. That’s due to the duo’s spot-on performance of “Believe,” which also won song of the year honors. Once again, Brooks & Dunn — who have won more ACM awards than any other artist in history — were named duo of the year.

Meanwhile, sales of Carrie Underwood’s Some Hearts ascended 84 percent following her top new female vocalist trophy. “Jesus, Take the Wheel” also won single record of the year. (Of course, her performance on American Idol one night after the ACMs didn’t hurt either.)

Kenny Chesney won his second entertainer trophy from the ACM to energize sales of The Road and the Radio to the tune of 53 percent, according to figures from Nielsen SoundScan. Brad Paisley’s three wins — video, vocal event (with Dolly Parton) and album — propelled his Time Well Wasted to a gain of 53 percent, as well. Rascal Flatts, who won the top vocal group award, saw sales of Me and My Gang grow 33 percent and their previous album, Feels Like Today, rise 36 percent.

And although they didn’t win anything, Little Big Town’s The Road to Here soared 86 percent after they performed their first big hit, “Boondocks.” Big & Rich turned in a moving rendition of “8th of November,” reviving Comin’ to Your City to a 61 percent increase. However, both artists lost the top new duo or vocal group award to Sugarland, whose Twice the Speed of Life increased in sales by 54 percent.

As previously reported, the Dixie Chicks’ Taking the Long Way arrives at No. 1 on Billboard’s country albums chart and the all-genre Billboard 200 with 525,829 copies sold in its first week of release. Rascal Flatts’ Me and My Gang dips to No. 2, even with a 33 percent sales boost after the ACMs. Underwood is at No. 3, trailed by the new duo, the Wreckers, whose Stand Still, Look Pretty debuts at No. 4.

The remaining albums in the Top 10, in descending order, are Toby Keith’s White Trash With Money, Tim McGraw’s Greatest Hits, Vol. 2, Keith Urban’s Be Here (up 43 percent in sales), Alan Jackson’s Precious Memories, Brooks & Dunn’s Hillbilly Deluxe and The Legend of Johnny Cash.

In addition to the Wreckers, other new albums on the chart include Johnny Cash’s Personal Files at No. 22, Rhonda Vincent’s All American Bluegrass Girl at No. 43 and the lively film soundtrack to Robert Altman’s A Prairie Home Companion at No. 73.

Meanwhile, on Billboard’s country airplay chart, Dierks Bentley’s “Settle for a Slowdown” remains at No. 1 for the second week. Chesney’s “Summertime” bounces ahead two positions to No. 2, ahead of LeAnn Rimes’ “Something’s Gotta Give” at No. 3, Phil Vassar’s “Last Day of My Life” at No. 4 and Jason Aldean’s “Why” at No. 5. McGraw’s “When the Stars of the Blue,” Paisley’s “The World,” Underwood’s “Don’t Forget to Remember Me,” Joe Nichols’ “Size Matters (Someday)” and Keith Anderson’s “Every Time I Hear Your Name” round out the Top 10.

Jack Ingram’s “Love You” is the week’s only debut, arriving at No. 52. His previous single, “Wherever You Are,” reached No. 1 last month.
