Dixie Chicks Tour “Rerouted” Amid Reports of Slow Ticket Sales

Amid widespread industry speculation that some dates on their upcoming tour may be canceled or postponed, the Dixie Chicks posted a notice on their Web site Friday (June 9) attempting to quell rumors. Their notice says, in part, “Any reports being made about the cancellation of our upcoming Accidents & Accusations tour are completely false. We have known since March 2003 that our path in this business would have obstacles at every pass. … Things don’t come as easy as they might have come in the past, and it makes each accomplishment more exciting and appreciated.” Trade publications are reporting that advance sales in many cities are below expectations. Shows scheduled for Memphis, St. Louis, Oklahoma City, Indianapolis and Fresno, Calif., have reportedly been dropped or “postponed.” A spokesperson for the group said the tour was being re-routed based on market sales. Their Oct. 28 show in Toronto reportedly sold out in eight minutes, and a second concert has been added. The original tour schedule included two U.K. dates and 43 North American concerts.
