Freezer Ice Cream
There’s nothing better than homemade ice cream in a freezer. We’ve already made some once this year and are ready for more!
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla
1/2 pint whipping cream
2 large (12 oz.) cans condensed milk
1 1/2 quarts milk
fruit of your choice, if you like
Beat eggs well. Combine with cream, sugar and condensed milk. Stir and cook until mixture starts to thicken. Cool, then pour into freezer container. Add vanilla and milk until within an inch of top. Place lid on securely and put container in the freezer. Add ice and rock salt generously up to the lid, then add ice.
Freeze until you can no longer turn or if electric, until motor stops. Wrap and allow to sit about an hour — if you can stand to wait that long!
We used to not cook this before freezing, but the FDA has so many health cautions regarding eggs, I started making a thin custard by heating. I don’t want my babies getting sick.
