Pound Cake

No matter what Sara Lee claims, she can’t bake pound cake as good as you can.

3 cups sugar
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1 cup butter
5 eggs
3 cups plain flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup plain milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon lemon extract

Preheat oven to 325°.

Have butter at room temperature. Cream butter, Crisco and sugar in a mixing bowl until well blended. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add flour and milk alternately to the mixture, scraping sides of bowl often. Add flavorings. Bake in a greased and floured tube pan for 1 1/2 hours.

Goes good with fresh peaches, strawberries or just plain.
