The bride and groom — and their family and friends — aren’t talking about it, but that hasn’t stopped the gossip and speculation surrounding Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman’s wedding planned for Sunday (June 25) in Sydney, Australia.
In fact, the one person directly involved in the ceremony — Father Paul Coleman, a family friend who is expected to conduct the ceremony — was apparently asked to stop talking about the event after he was quoted in several newspaper interviews. Even at that, the clergyman had really offered few details at all. Among them was his observation that the couple are “very much in love.” He added, “It is a simple Catholic marriage and will not be overly long. It will be inside an hour. It will be the traditional prayers, quite simple but very sincere.”
It is known that Kidman’s adopted children — Isabella, 13, and Connor, 11 — arrived Thursday (June 22) in Sydney after traveling in a private jet from Tokyo where their father, actor Tom Cruise, was promoting his latest film. In her role as ambassador for the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Kidman took her two children to visit the medical center and spent two hours talking to patients and staff members.
Celebrity weddings never fail to create a feeding frenzy among tabloid journalists. Urban’s popularity is fairly recent, especially when compared to Kidman’s status as an international movie star whose career was ignited by the 1990 film, Days of Thunder, which also starred Cruise. Kidman, 39, and Cruise married in 1990 and divorced in 2001.
In writing about Urban, the European media have centered on his triumph over addictions to cocaine and alcohol. One photo that keeps resurfacing in the tabloids is the Playgirl magazine photo of Urban sitting with his trusty Fender Telecaster guitar covering his private parts.
It’s the first marriage for Urban, 38, who was born in New Zealand and raised in Australia. Kidman was born in Hawaii and grew up in Australia. The couple met in January 2005 at a gala dinner that was a highlight of the second annual G’Day LA: Australia Week in Los Angeles. The dinner also honored actor-director Mel Gibson and other Australians who have made significant international contributions.
Reports in the Australian media indicate the wedding will be attended by several celebrities, including actress Naomi Watts and actors Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman and Moulin Rouge director Baz Luhrmann. Several of Urban’s friends and business associates from Nashville have also traveled to Australia for the wedding, although no other country artists have been officially confirmed to attend.
Until it takes place, though, everything else surrounding the wedding is mere speculation.
