Emmylou Harris Plays Surprise Show for Humane Society

Without any formal announcement, Emmylou Harris played for more than an hour at a small Nashville club on Thursday night (July 20), serving as a rehearsal for her upcoming European tour and as a fundraiser for the Nashville Humane Association. News of Harris’ appearance was spread by word-of-mouth and e-mail, and some 150 people paid a $10 cover charge for the show at the Basement. Harris and her band (Pam Rose, Mary Ann Kennedy and Dave Jacques) mostly offered music from the later part of her career, including the Golden Globe-winning song, “A Love That Will Never Grow Old,” which she recorded for the film, Brokeback Mountain. Thursday’s show marked the first time Harris performed the song live.
