Tennessee Candidate to Give Back Evans-Schelske Contribution

Tennessee gubernatorial candidate Jim Bryson says he will return a $1,000 financial campaign contribution pledged by Sara Evans and her husband Craig Schelske. Bryson, a Republican running against incumbent Gov. Phil Bredesen, said the couple — now embroiled in a divorce scandal — also had planned to serve as hosts for a Bryson fundraiser scheduled for Oct. 19. Bryson spokesman Lance Frizzell said the fundraiser invitations were mailed before the news of Evans’ filing for divorce. “When the news broke,” said Frizzell, “we made the phone call to the person who put them on the host committee. We said, ’We understand you probably won’t want to be part of this event as a couple.'” Schelske ran unsuccessfully for Congress in Oregon and has contributed to a conservative political action committee.
