Rascal Flatts are nominated in five categories at the 2006 Billboard Music Awards taking place Monday (Dec. 4) in Las Vegas. They’re nominated with Chris Brown and Nickelback in the overall artist of the year division and with Nickelback and the Pussycat Dolls in the overall duo/group category. Rascal Flatts are also nominated with Kenny Chesney and Carrie Underwood for country artist of the year and with Brooks & Dunn and Sugarland for country duo/group. The country album of the year nominees are Rascal Flatts’ Me and My Gang, Underwood’s Some Hearts and Chesney’s The Road and the Radio. Chesney, Toby Keith and Tim McGraw are up for male country artist of the year, and Underwood, Faith Hill and Gretchen Wilson are nominated for female country artist. Country single of the year nominations went to Chesney’s “Summertime,” Rodney Atkins’ “If You’re Going Through Hell (Before the Devil Even Knows)” and Brad Paisley’s “The World.” Underwood also picked up an overall album of the year nomination for her debut project, Some Hearts. Walk the Line, the Johnny Cash biopic, received a nomination for soundtrack album of the year. All winners of the Billboard Music Awards are determined by data gathered from the trade publication’s music charts. The Fox Network will broadcast the awards show live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
