Rodney Atkins returned Wednesday (Dec. 13) to Greeneville, Tenn., for a holiday concert benefiting his former place of residence — the Holston United Methodist Home for Children. Born in Knoxville, Tenn., Atkins was placed at the home at birth and was placed for adoption three different times during his first year of life. At the concert, the singer-songwriter was reunited with Charles Hutchins, now vice president of the home, who was responsible for placing Atkins with his adoptive parents. “I was adopted from here, and I know how important a sense of family is, especially during the holidays,” Atkins said. “It’s great to have the opportunity to come back and help bring awareness to Holston Home.” Atkins’ current single, “Watching You,” was written about his son Elijah, who co-stars in the song’s music video and is the only biological relative the singer has ever known.
