Kansas Playground Named for Chely Wright

A playground in Topeka, Kan., will be built in appreciation of Chely Wright's humanitarian efforts in the area. Wright performed an acoustic concert for the Topeka Association of Retarded Citizens (TARC) over the holidays for the second consecutive year. This time, she was surprised when the nonprofit organization revealed plans for a children's playground in her name, to be called the Wright Place. "This is an unexpected and deeply humbling honor," Wright said. "I'm proud to be part of this community and their continued effort to improve it. Topeka is synonymous with 'community,' a place where citizens become caring neighbors and friends." A Kansas native, Wright reached No. 1 in 1999 with "Single White Female."
