Country Songs Spotlighted on American Idol

American Idol contestants took a turn with country music this week, performing country hits by Martina McBride, Tim McGraw, Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban, among others. However, Sanjaya Malakar’s version of Bonnie Raitt’s “Something to Talk About” led him to be cut from the competition on Wednesday night (April 18). Other songs heard in the series included Urban’s “Where the Blacktop Ends,” McBride’s “A Broken Wing,” Underwood’s “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” Rascal Flatts’ “Mayberry,” Julie Reeves’ “Trouble Is a Woman” (which peaked at No. 39 on the Billboard country charts in 1999) and McGraw’s “When the Stars Go Blue.” McBride coached the singers as a special guest on the show.
