3 pounds good ground beef
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
Sharp cheddar cheese
Sprinkle with salt and pepper; mix meat with your hands until totally blended. Roll meat in round balls the size of tennis balls. Flatten meat balls to saucer sized beween two pieces of wax paper; rolling with a rolling pen or a glass (anything round). Slice a nice piece of cheddar and place between two meat slices. Seal edges to disallow seepage. Heat oil or Crisco in a fry pan until hot but not smoking. Fry burgers until done – maybe 5 minutes each side.
Serve while hot on large buns smeared with mustard, Miracle Whip, add sliced tomatoes, onions and lettuce. Baked beans or corn on the cob goes with this dish.
