Mindy McCready Charged With Assaulting Her Mother

Mindy McCready is free on $1,000 bond after being arrested Saturday (July 21) on misdemeanor charges of domestic battery and resisting arrest following a domestic dispute at her mother’s home in North Fort Myers, Fla. Sheriff’s investigators claim McCready, 31, assaulted her mother and fought with a law officer after coming home from a restaurant late Friday night or early Saturday morning. McCready’s mother, Melody Inge called authorities to complain about her daughter being intoxicated and causing a disturbance. Inge was scratched in the face, and deputies say McCready resisted arrest until a female police officer wrestled her to the ground until she could be handcuffed. However, McCready claims she and her mother were playing Scrabble when an argument broke out and that deputies tackled her when they came into her mother’s home. She is scheduled for an Aug. 14 court date. Other recent run-ins with the law include trying to fill an OxyContin prescription that wasn’t hers in 2004. In 2005, she charged her boyfriend with attempted murder and was treated for an overdose of drugs and alcohol. McCready reached No. 1 in 1996 with “Ten Thousand Angels.”
