Graceland may level its visitors center and adjacent Heartbreak Hotel if plans to expand the Memphis tourist attraction are realized. While Elvis Presley’s former home is safe from construction, the managers of Graceland want to build a $250 million convention and tourist center, as well as a high-tech museum, which would be located on the same side of the street as the mansion for the first time. Plans by the company CFX, which bought Presley’s name and image from Lisa Marie Presley in 2006, also call for a digital recreation of Presley as part of the Graceland experience. No construction schedule has been announced. The 30th anniversary of Presley’s death will be observed on Aug. 16 in Memphis.
