Ian Tyson Tribute CD Arriving in October

Canadian Music Hall of Fame member Ian Tyson is being honored with a tribute album featuring performances by Gordon Lightfoot, Chris Hillman, Jennifer Warnes, Ramblin' Jack Elliott and others. The Gift: A Tribute to Ian Tyson will be released in the U.S. on Oct. 9 by Stony Plain Records. Tyson gained acclaim in folk music circles during the '60s in Ian & Sylvia and later explored country-rock in the '70s with the band Great Speckled Bird before delving into cowboy music during the '80s. As a songwriter, his most famous compositions are "Four Strong Winds" (recorded by Neil Young, Johnny Cash, Tony Rice and others) and "Someday Soon" (recorded by Suzy Bogguss, Judy Collins, Crystal Gayle and others). The tribute CD features appearances by several musicians who have worked with Tyson through the years, including guitarists Amos Garrett and David Rea and steel guitarist Buddy Cage, along with Blue Rodeo, Corb Lund and Tom Russell. Tyson, 73, still performs approximately 75 concerts a year.
