Garth Brooks Donating Memorabilia to Smithsonian

Garth Brooks is donating his first gold record and other career memorabilia to the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. The presentation is scheduled to take place Tuesday (Dec. 4) at the Smithsonian's Air and Space Museum. In addition to the gold record for his self-titled debut album, Brooks presented the museum with original handwritten lyric sheets for "Beaches of Cheyenne" and a Takamine he smashed in Dallas in 1991 while taping his first TV special, This Is Garth Brooks. He also donated several pieces of stage clothing, including a shirt, jeans, hat, belt and elephant-skin cowboy boots. The museum houses numerous musical collections representing a wide variety of artists, including Patsy Cline, Duke Ellington, Ray Charles and Dizzy Gillespie.
