BMI Salutes Casey Beathard for “Don’t Blink”

BMI honored Casey Beathard Tuesday (Jan. 15) for co-writing the Kenny Chesney hit, “Don’t Blink.” Chesney was unable to attend the party but was represented by his longtime producer, Buddy Cannon. BMI vice president Jody Williams praised Beathard for his ongoing chart successes, noting that he is also co-writer of George Strait’s “How ’Bout Them Cowgirls,” Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus’ “Ready, Set, Don’t Go” and Rodney Atkins’ “Cleaning This Gun (Come On In Boy).” Beathard shared much of the credit for “Don’t Blink” with co-writer Chris Wallin, who is represented by BMI’s competing performance rights organization, ASCAP. Beathard noted that his publishing company, Sony/ATV Music, had stressed to its writers that Chesney was looking for up-tempo songs to record. Nonetheless, Beathard said he took a gamble and submitted the more leisurely paced “Don’t Blink.” Chesney liked it so much, Beathard continued, that he chose it over his own compositions. “And [over] mine,” Cannon added.
