Melissa Lawson, a 32-year-old working mother of five from Arlington, Texas, was named winner of Nashville Star during Monday night’s (Aug. 4) sixth season finale on NBC. She and Gabe Garcia, a Hispanic singer from the San Antonio area, were the final two contestants in the fan-voted talent competition. Throughout the season, Lawson’s strong vocals on material by Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, Bonnie Raitt and others made her a fan favorite. As the winner, Lawson will receive a recording contract with Warner Bros. Nashville and a performance slot at the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing. Monday’s episode of Nashville Star will re-air Friday (Aug. 8) at 4:30 p.m. ET/PT on CMT.
