Australian Country Star Reg Lindsay Dies

Reg Lindsay, a popular country performer in Australia, died Tuesday (Aug. 5) in Newcastle, in New South Wales, following a long illness. He was 73. Lindsay made his recording debut in 1951 and recorded 65 albums and 250 singles for a variety of labels. His hits include “Silence on the Line,” “Empty Arms Hotel,” “Armstrong” and “July, You’re a Woman.” He joined the Roll of Renown — Australian country music’s highest honor — in 1984 and received the Order of Australia in 1989 from Queen Elizabeth II for his musical contributions.
