Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles is launching Common Thread, a musical event that includes artists and organizations coming together to share music, lifestyle and philanthropy. The first three events will feature acoustic performances by Sugarland, Emily Saliers of Indigo Girls and singer-songwriter Amos Lee and will reflect Nettles’ philosophy of balanced living through music, yoga and eco-consciousness. Each artist will donate their proceeds from the events to their favorite charities — Nettles to the American Cancer Society and fellow Sugarland member Kristian Bush to the American Liver Foundation. Saliers’ proceeds will benefit Honor the Earth, and Lee will donate his money to the music and mentorship program of Intercultural Family Services. “I’m hoping Common Thread will be a multi-genre diverse bill under the common thread of activism and community organization,” Nettles says. “I do believe that one action can cause a ripple and make a difference. So, if you inspire some of your fans to go out into their own communities and effect change, then that’s success.” The initial events are scheduled for Nov. 20 in Beaver Creek, Colo., Nov. 21 in Aspen, Colo., and Nov. 23 in Santa Fe, N.M.
