Martina McBride takes the spotlight this week as Shine debuts at No. 1 on Billboard’s country albums chart. Meanwhile, Darius Rucker’s “It Won’t Be Like This for Long” settles in for its third straight week as the nation’s most-played country song.
McBride’s surge drops Taylor Swift’s Fearless into the No. 2 slot, the first time that album has lost its front-running status since it came out 20 weeks ago. Don’t weep for Swift, however. McBride outsold her by fewer than 2,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Thus, it’s quite likely that the steady-selling Swift will soon reclaim the summit.
The week’s fourth and final new album is Bad Magick: The Best of Shooter Jennings and the 357’s. It arrives at No. 52.
The Top 5 country songs are ranked exactly the same as they were last week. Following Rucker’s tune, in descending order, are Swift’s “White Horse,” George Strait’s “River of Love,” Jake Owen’s “Don’t Think I Can’t Love You” and Rodney Atkins’ “It’s America.”
So how does it feel being a witness to history?
