An autopsy is scheduled Tuesday (May 26) to determine the cause of death of Jay Bennett, a former member of the band Wilco, who died in his sleep Sunday (May 24) at his home in Urbana, Ill. He was 45. The multi-instrumentalist was a member of Wilco from 1994 to 2001 and was featured on three of the band’s most significant albums — Being There (1996), Summerteeth (1999) and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (2002). Earlier this month, Bennett filed a lawsuit against Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy for breach of contract and unpaid artist’s royalties. At the time of his death, Bennett was recording his fifth solo album, Kicking at the Perfumed Air.
