Julianne Hough Says Footloose Delay Opens Up Touring Opportunities

Julianne Hough’s role in the remake of the 1984 musical, Footloose, has been postponed because of a change of film directors, she tells CMT Radio. Filming was scheduled to begin in March, but director Kenny Ortega dropped out of the project after finalizing his work on the Michael Jackson documentary, This Is It. The project is now being directed by Craig Brewer, best known for Hustle & Flow. Hough and Chace Crawford will star in the updated version of Footloose. With Brewer directing it, she says the film will be “gritty” and “edgy” rather than a show tune production. Regarding the delay, Hough says, “The new director is shooting a movie right now that he wrote and is directing, so it’s going to be postponed for a while — which I’m actually really excited about because I get to tour. I get to go back on the road and see the fans. And like I’ve said before, I love doing the movies and stuff, but being able to do something live is so fulfilling.” Earlier this week, she performed at the Country Radio Seminar in Nashville during the Universal Music Group luncheon and as Taylor Swift’s guest during the Music City Jam. Hough is currently shooting another film, Burlesque, with Christina Aguilera, Kristen Bell, Eric Dane, Stanley Tucci and Cher.
