Marty Raybon Back Into Country With New Album

Shenandoah's former lead singer, Marty Raybon, who detoured to the bluegrass music of his youth in his last album, is solidly back in the country realm with his latest collection, At His Best. Raybon rolled out the new music Tuesday (March 2) at a listening party held at the offices of his Nashville label, GrandVista Music. "It's kind of like a male Alison Krauss with a Dixie Chicks feel," he said in describing the sound of the project. (Krauss collaborated with Shenandoah on the 1995 hit, "Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart," which won a Grammy for best country vocal collaboration.) Raybon said he hopes his first single from the new album, "Daddy Phone," will fuel the movement to award both parents in a divorce equal custody of their children. Raybon co-produced the album with Paul Carroll Binkley and co-wrote five of the 11 songs, including "Still My Little Man (Matty's Song)," dedicated to his son who's now serving in Mosul, Iraq.
