Jimmy Wayne Completes Meet Me Halfway Walk in Phoenix

A broken heel failed to deter Jimmy Wayne in his effort to complete his walk from Nashville to Phoenix to raise awareness of problems faced by homeless youth. Wayne, who began the 1,700-mile trek on New Year's Day, arrived Sunday (Aug. 1) at his destination at the HomeBase Youth Services facility in Phoenix. He wore an air boot for support during the final five miles of his journey after injuring his right foot while walking down the side of a mountain near Mesa, Ariz. Wayne spent his teen years in and out of foster homes until a couple made him part of their family when he was 16. His Meet Me Halfway walk called attention to the needs of at-risk youth who are in danger of being released from the foster home systems because of their age. To celebrate the completion of the walk, Wayne and his band performed a free show Sunday night at Toby Keith's I Love This Bar and Grill in Mesa. The singer-songwriter's next appearance takes place Saturday (Aug. 7) in Greenville, Wis.
