Tootsie’s Turns 50 With Ryman Show, Purple Carpet

There probably isn’t a country artist in Nashville who hasn’t bragged about performing at the Ryman Auditorium, then sneaking out the back door and across the alley to Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge . To celebrate the bar’s milestone anniversary, you can make that same legendary walk yourself. On a purple carpet, no less. Tootsie’s is marking 50 years as one of lower Broadway’s best bar-slash-music-rooms with a star-studded night. First, there is the Ryman show with Kris Kristofferson, Mel Tillis, Little Jimmy Dickens, Terri Clark, Mark Chesnutt, the Grascals, Ronnie McDowell and new artist Joanna Smith on Nov. 7. You can go to that for just $50 . If you want to hit the Tootsie’s after-party that will stretch down the entire block on Broadway, that’ll be $150 . And if all you want to do is party at Tootsie’s, that’s $110. There will be free hors d’oeuvres, surprise guest performances and more. I’m sure the music will be thoroughly entertaining and the food will be Nashville’s finest, but the purple carpet walk might be the most priceless part of the night.
