OFFSTAGE: People‘s Not-Quite-All the Sexiest Men Alive

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

People’s Sexiest Man Alive issue is on newsstands right now. But I’ll save you the $4.99 and just tell you there are no country artists in here. There are scattered pictures from the CMA Awards of Blake Shelton, Keith Urban and Vince Gill. And then there’s a Jason Aldean mini review of his new album, My Kinda Party, where they say “he loses points for that rap on ’Dirt Road Anthem.'” Then there is a little bit of news about the women of country, like how Jennifer Nettles loves the Chocolate El Diablo at the Atlanta Cupcake Factory and that Taylor Swift had the best strapless dress (the red one from Monica Lhuillier ) at the CMAs. And Jake Gyllenhaal, who is country by association if it’s true that he’s wooing Swift, is sexy because he says, “A true leading man has both strength and vulnerability.” Clearly, with the lack of Nashville’s finest being named, the People people must not pay a lot of attention to country sexy anyway. In the past 25 years they’ve been naming one guy the sexiest, it has never ever been a country singer.

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
